History and Heritage: From Technical College to Institute of Technology
The story of Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) began in 1974, when it was established as the Cork Regional Technical College. However, its roots go back even further—in 1912, the Crawford Institute of Technology officially opened, marking the beginning of technical education in the Cork region. In 1993, Cork Regional Technical College merged with Crawford College of Art and Design and the Cork Conservatory of Music, officially changing its name to Cork Institute of Technology (CIT).
In 2025, the institution reached a historic turning point—merging with Trinity College of Technology to officially become the University of Munster (MTU). This merger made Cork Institute of Technology a vital component of Ireland’s third-largest university, opening a new chapter in its development. Fame of Irish University Degrees
