Campus Location and Transportation
Located in southeastern Kansas, Pittsburg is a typical college town with a safe environment and a relatively low cost of living. The campus is within walking distance of downtown, and public transportation consists mainly of campus shuttles and local buses; the town’s size makes commuting simple and convenient. The quiet study environment and sense of community fostered by this small-town setting are key reasons why many out-of-state and even international students choose to study here. For international or out-of-state students, while the campus may lack the diversity of a major city, it offers distinct advantages in terms of cost of living, safety, and the opportunity to deeply immerse oneself in campus culture. I recommend that prospective applicants weigh their lifestyle preferences against their career development needs; if you are seeking a stable learning environment and a close-knit community network, Pittsburg is an excellent choice.
A Welcoming Campus Environment
My time at Pittsburgh State University was filled with growth, exploration, and fun. Although I spent three years at Pittsburgh State University, my experience was slightly different from that of many other students. While other students flocked to the main campus, I spent most of my time at the Crossland Technology Center. I found that this smaller, more focused learning environment was exactly what I needed. The Technology Center is a quiet, hands-on space with small class sizes where you can really get to know your professors.
The enthusiasm of the Pittsburgh State Gorillas is incredibly contagious. It’s the perfect college town. The town may not be large, but it has everything you need. Although Pittsburgh State University is small, it possesses the energy and spirit of a major university. I’m incredibly proud to be a part of both the university and this town. People know each other here; it feels like a close-knit community where you can build meaningful relationships both inside and outside the classroom.
