A strategy for switching majors for a U.S. college diploma

Different universities have different requirements for changing majors, which usually include:

  • GPA requirements**: some popular majors (e.g. CS, Business) may require a higher GPA (e.g. 3.5+).
  • Pre-requisite courses**: some majors require the completion of specific courses (e.g. calculus, statistics) in order to apply.
  • Application Deadline**: Some schools only open the window to change majors 1-2 times per year, so you will need to wait for the next round if you miss it.

**Recommendation**: Contact an Academic Advisor as early as possible to learn about specific policies.

Campus Life

My overall experience at Rutgers University–New Brunswick has been positive and inspiring. I greatly appreciate the academic atmosphere here, the wide range of course options, and the opportunity to learn from knowledgeable professors. Being surrounded by motivated peers has inspired me to study harder and take my academic work seriously.
At the same time, I hope the university can provide more support and resources for transfer students, particularly during the transition period. Adjusting to life at a large university is no easy task, and clearer guidance on resources, counseling, and financial aid would make this experience much smoother. In summary, Rutgers has provided a solid foundation for my academic growth, and I am sincerely grateful for the many opportunities the university has offered me.
