School Structure and Degree Programs
Singapore Institute of Technology comprises 11 academic schools offering more than 50 full-time diploma programs across fields such as engineering, information technology, business, design, life sciences, and maritime studies. The School of Engineering serves as the institution’s cornerstone, comprising the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Its unique “General Engineering Program” allows students to select a specialization—including Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Robotics—based on their interests and academic performance by the end of the first semester. In the field of information technology, the School of Computing offers cutting-edge programs such as Applied Artificial Intelligence and Analytics, covering specializations including Cybersecurity and Financial Informatics. Other schools include the School of Architecture and the Built Environment, the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, the School of Mathematics and Science, the School of Media Arts and Design, and the Singapore Maritime Institute. Additionally, SP operates the School of Life Skills and Communication, which is responsible for students’ general education and the development of communication skills.
Number of Student Clubs and Organizations
Committed to fostering students’ holistic development, Singapore Polytechnic (SP) provides an extensive platform of co-curricular activities for student participation. The school currently has 97 Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) clubs, which fall into four main categories: arts and culture, sports, community service, and leadership development.
In the arts and culture category, CCAs include the Music and Audio Technology Club, the Drama Club, and the Dance Club, providing students with diverse artistic experiences. CCAs in the sports category offer a wide range of options, such as soccer, basketball, badminton, tennis, swimming, and rock climbing. The school is equipped with comprehensive sports facilities, including a standard soccer field, an athletics track, an indoor heated swimming pool, multiple indoor gymnasiums, and a modern sports arena completed in 2015, all of which fully support a wide range of sports activities.
Community service and leadership-focused CCAs create valuable opportunities for students to engage in volunteer work and develop their organizational and coordination skills.
In addition, the school actively encourages students—especially freshmen—to explore and join clubs that spark their personal interests through events such as CCA orientation sessions held at the start of the semester and the annual CCA Carnival.
Internationalization and Student Composition
The student body at Singapore Institute of Technology is highly international. Currently, the total number of full-time students is approximately 15,000, with international students accounting for about 10% of the total, hailing from various countries and regions around the world.
Geographically, international students primarily come from China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, as well as Europe and the Americas. To support the integration and development of international students, the college has established a dedicated International Cooperation and Exchange Department. This department is committed not only to fostering a multicultural exchange environment but also to providing students with comprehensive, one-stop services, including assistance with visa applications, accommodation arrangements, orientation, and academic support.
Campus Location and Transportation
SP’s main campus is located in Dover, central Singapore, covering 38 hectares. It is one of Singapore’s renowned garden-style campuses. The campus features a beautiful, tree-lined environment and comprehensive facilities, including two library reading rooms, multiple on-campus restaurants and fast-food outlets, and convenience stores. A particularly convenient feature is that Dover MRT Station is situated at the heart of the campus, directly connected to the academic area via a skybridge, allowing students to walk onto campus immediately upon exiting the station. Additionally, multiple bus routes serve the campus vicinity, making it easy for students to travel to various parts of the island.
Scholarships and Financial Aid System
SP offers international students a wide range of accessible scholarship and financial aid options. International students may apply for government grants established by the Singapore Ministry of Education, which can cover up to 70% to 80% of tuition fees. Upon approval, recipients are required to work for a registered company in Singapore for three years after graduation. This “service-bound” funding model not only alleviates the financial burden of tuition but also provides students with a fast track to the local job market. Additionally, the college offers specialized scholarships for academic excellence or special talents, allowing students to apply independently for additional financial support during their studies. Regarding accommodation, some international students may choose government public housing or private apartments near the campus, with a cost of living lower than that of major study destinations in Europe and the United States.
Graduate Employment Rate and Starting Salary
Thanks to a robust applied curriculum and close industry collaboration, SP graduates are highly competitive in the job market. The overall employment rate remains high, with some popular majors—such as Information Technology and Engineering—achieving an employment rate of nearly 90% within six months of graduation. According to a 2025 joint employment survey of Singapore’s five polytechnics, the median monthly salary for graduates generally reaches 3,000 Singapore dollars (approximately 16,000 RMB). Among these, engineering and information technology majors lead in salary levels due to their close alignment with national strategies such as the Smart Nation initiative. This combination of high employment rates and high starting salaries is a key reason why SP attracts students from around the world to pursue their studies here.
