Kingston University continues to be recognized for its teaching quality and international outlook. It is ranked 660th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings and 55th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2026, a rise of five places from the previous year. International Student Population and Cultural Diversity
Kingston University prides itself on its highly inclusive international community. Of the approximately 20,000 students across the university, around 5,000 are international students, hailing from over 140 countries and regions. The university has a dedicated International Student Advisory Team that provides one-stop services for visas, accommodation, and cultural adaptation. International Student Orientation Week includes guided tours of London, assistance with opening bank accounts, GP registration, and campus safety seminars. The Language Support Centre offers free academic English courses and one-on-one writing support for non-native English speakers. Additionally, the International Student Peer Mentor Scheme pairs new students with senior student volunteers to help them quickly integrate into campus life.
Sustainability and Green Campus
Kingston University is one of the first UK universities to sign the UN Sustainable Development Goals Pact, committing to achieving a carbon-neutral campus by 2030. The Sustainability Centre at the Penrhyn Road Campus has been awarded a BREEAM “Outstanding” rating and is equipped with solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system, and a green roof. The Campus Eco-Garden is maintained by student volunteers and grows native wildflowers and vegetables for use in campus cafés. The university has implemented the “Green Commute Scheme”, which offers reward points to students who walk, cycle, or carpool, redeemable for campus vouchers. The university canteens have completely phased out single-use plastic cutlery and introduced “Vegetarian Mondays”. Kingston was ranked among the Top 40 Green Universities in the UK in the 2024 People & Planet University Green League.
Mental Health and Counseling Services
Kingston University places a high priority on student well-being and has established KU Wellbeing, a professional mental health and well-being team composed of licensed psychotherapists and mental health counselors. Services include one-on-one counseling (in-person, by phone, or via video), weekly mindfulness and stress reduction groups, pre-exam anxiety management workshops, and a 24-hour mental health helpline. The university’s “KU Support” online platform offers self-assessment tools and self-help courses. Dedicated international student counselors provide counseling specifically for international students on cross-cultural adaptation, homesickness, and culture shock. All services are completely free for enrolled students and strictly confidential.
