UNLV’s history began in 1951, when Southern Nevada University launched extension courses in an empty classroom at Las Vegas High School, with just one full-time instructor and 12 students. On September 10, 1957, the Nevada State Board of Regents approved the establishment of the Southern Campus of the University of Nevada.
