School Structure and Degree Programs
CCCU comprises six core schools covering the fields of health, education, humanities, social sciences, arts, and science. The School of Health and Wellbeing is one of the UK’s largest providers of nursing and midwifery education, offering degrees in nursing, occupational therapy, and diagnostic radiology. The School of Education and Community builds on the university’s tradition of teacher training dating back to its founding in 1962, offering programs in early years education, teacher training, and special educational needs.
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences encompasses disciplines such as history, politics, psychology, and law. The School of Arts and Humanities offers creative degrees in design, film, music, and drama. The School of Science, Engineering, and Social Sciences covers fields including forensic science, biological sciences, and computer science. Additionally, the university operates the Canterbury Anglican Business School. All undergraduate programs utilize a modular credit system, allowing students to choose minor specializations based on their interests and graduate with a BA/BSc (Hons) degree. Research Strengths and Key Laboratories
In the REF 2021 assessment, over 60% of CCCU’s research was rated as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent,” with the research impact of Allied Health Professions, Social Work, and Education ranking among the top in the UK. Key research platforms include: the Applied Health Research Group (in collaboration with the NHS, focusing on chronic disease management and community care); the Language and Cognitive Science Laboratory, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities; and the Criminology and Policing Research Center, which conducts community safety projects in partnership with Kent Police. Undergraduates have the opportunity to participate in professors’ research projects through the “Research Assistant Scheme,” with corresponding credits reflected on their transcripts.
