An Educational Legacy Spanning Three Centuries
NDU’s history dates back to 1736, when the Maronite Sisters of Notre Dame convened in Mount Lebanon, vowing to promote education throughout Lebanon and advocating for “free education for all.” In 1987, through Presidential Decree No. 4116, NDU was officially granted university status and was established at the Louaize Monastery in Lebanon. In 1998, the institution relocated to the Jouk Mosbeh campus, 15 kilometers north of Beirut. Situated at an elevation of 100 meters, the campus overlooks the magnificent Bay of Jounieh. NDU’s academic quality is widely recognized across the Middle East and North Africa. It is the only university in the Middle East accredited by NECHE and the only Catholic university in the region to hold this distinction. NDU has a total faculty of over 400 (full-time and part-time), with a per-faculty research output ranking among the top four in Lebanon.
