Paid Co-op and Industry Partnerships: A Career Support System Integrated Throughout Your Studies

Trent University deeply integrates practical education into its academic curriculum. Its School of Business and Department of Economics offer employers two full-time, paid recruitment pathways: Co-op placements and internships, with students working across various professional fields including accounting, human resources, marketing, finance, and economics. The Co-op program is structured to alternate with academic terms throughout the degree program. Students complete three 4-month full-time work terms, totaling up to 12 months of work experience. Placement opportunities span across Canada, allowing students to accumulate over 1,000 hours of industry experience before formally entering the workforce.

Trent University has also launched the “New Apprenticeship Program,” which selects 10 humanities and social sciences undergraduates each year to participate in a 12-month paid apprenticeship with 10 local companies, facilitating their transition from “graduates” to “prospective employees” through real-world project experience. Students who complete their applications and pay the deposit by the deadline are guaranteed on-campus housing, and over 1,000 current students have gained initial work experience through on-campus jobs.
