Universidad de La Habana diploma, University of Havana degree

Main Campus Architecture and Historical Landmarks

The main campus of the University of Havana is called “La Colina,” meaning “the hill.” It is situated on the Arostegi Hill in the Vedado district. The campus buildings, constructed in the first half of the 20th century, feature a distinctive neoclassical style and serve as a prominent landmark in the Havana skyline.

At the main entrance, a long stone staircase leads up to the administration building, modeled after the Parthenon in Greece. Standing on the steps, one can see a bronze statue named “Alma Mater” (Latin for “Mother”), which has become a symbol of this institution of higher learning. Behind the administration building lies the central plaza, surrounded by buildings of the same architectural style. with the Rubén Martínez Viera Library on the left and, on the right, the School of Law and the School of Mathematics and Computer Science.

At the far end of the plaza lies the Aula Magna, where important ceremonies are held. Inside the auditorium, seven murals represent academic fields such as medicine, science, art, philosophy, literature, and law, creating an atmosphere of great elegance and solemnity. The Art Deco-style library, built in 1936, along with artifacts such as tanks confiscated during the 1958 Revolution, collectively form the unique historical narrative of this university. Campus Environment and Landscaping

The University of Havana boasts a beautiful campus environment, with lush greenery and flowers throughout, providing students with a quiet and comfortable place to study and live. Located in the subtropical Caribbean region, Havana has an average annual temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius. The sea breeze is refreshing, making even the hottest days bearable, and sitting under the shade of the trees is particularly cool and pleasant.

The central plaza of the main campus serves as the heart of campus life, where students gather to discuss, socialize, and study. Surrounded by buildings featuring Roman-style columns, the plaza appears particularly solemn and majestic against the backdrop of the Caribbean’s azure sky. The entire campus preserves intact historical landmarks and beautiful natural scenery,
where the neoclassical auditorium, the Art Deco library, and lush tropical vegetation complement one another. It is both a center for academic research and a tourist attraction; its unique charm and beautiful surroundings make it a stunning landmark in Havana.

Institutional Accreditation and Program Accreditation
