Teaching Mode and Class Size: Foundation in Large Classes, Deepening in Small Classes

The University of Stuttgart adopts the classic German three-stage teaching system: the Vorlesung (large class) with hundreds of students in which professors systematically teach the core theories of the subject; the Seminar (research class) with a dozen students in which in-depth interactions and clashes of ideas are emphasized; and the Übung (tutorial class) in which knowledge is reinforced by exercises.

Some of the most popular and restricted programs (e.g. Technical Biology) have only 60 students per year and are characterized by a high proportion of laboratory sessions and intensive group tutorials. In-class exercises are common in master’s programs, with a ratio of exercises to lectures of about 1:2, and teaching tasks are usually performed by the professor’s doctoral students (teaching assistants). The lecturer uploads the courseware to the website before the class, and the teaching assistant uploads the exercises as revision material after the class. The classroom atmosphere is open and active, and the German teacher will interrupt in the middle of the presentation to ask questions and guide the students to analyze and discuss together.

Specialization: Engineering and Multidisciplinary Studies

The University of Stuttgart has 10 faculties, seven of which are specialized in science and technology. The main faculties are: Architecture and Urbanism, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Energy Technology and Biotechnology, Information Engineering and Electronics, Aerospace and Geodesy, Industrial Manufacturing and Vehicle Technology, Mathematics and Physics, Philosophy and History, and Economics and Social Sciences.

The university is renowned for its engineering disciplines, with mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and materials science ranking among the world’s top universities. Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Economic Informatics are ranked among the top ten in Germany by the “Deutsche Wirtschaftswoche”. Basic disciplines such as linguistics and physics are also strong.

Why so popular: the triple attraction

First, excellent rankings and reputation. The QS World University Ranking 2026 ranks the university 310th in the world, which is in the top 21% of the world’s universities; THE World University Ranking 251-300; ARWU Academic Ranking 22nd in Germany and 5th in TU9. celebrated quick Universität Stuttgart Urkunde

Secondly, it is highly internationalized. More than 60% of international students choose the University of Stuttgart as their first choice. The university offers a large number of fully English-taught master’s programs, which are very friendly to international students.

Thirdly, the location is unrivaled. Stuttgart is the center of the German automotive industry and is home to world-renowned companies such as Daimler-Benz, Bosch and Porsche. This unique advantage of “campus in the heart of industry” provides students with an unparalleled learning and employment environment.

Internships and partner companies: from the classroom to the enterprise

The University of Siegfried has established in-depth partnerships with top companies around the world, providing students with a wealth of internship opportunities. The Career Service serves as a contact point for career planning, internships and jobs, and Stellenwerk, the university’s official online recruitment platform, continuously publishes information about companies and internships.

The list of partner companies includes global giants such as Daimler, Bosch, Porsche, Lufthansa, IBM and Sony. The school has also established long-term cooperation mechanisms with leading companies such as Volkswagen and Siemens, and some of the programs provide joint internships from the third semester onwards, even embedding the “dual system” cultivation pathway to achieve a seamless learning-training-employment connection.

According to the BintHo study by DAAD, nearly three-fifths of international students want to work in Germany for a long time, of which 86% want to stay in Baden-Württemberg and more than 53% want to stay in Stuttgart and the surrounding area. The school offers a wide range of integration, language and career development courses through the FIT program to help students make a smooth transition to the world of work.
